Scotch Whisky Distillery Numbers Soar

A press release today from the Scotch Whisky Association, reports an all time high in the number of visitors to Scotch Whisky Distilleries.

The Scotch Whisky Association have reported that a record number of 9.1 million people visited Scotch Whisky Distilleries throughout 2017. This represents an 11.4% increase on 2016, and an overall increase of 45% since 2010.

In 2017, Isle of Arran Distillery reported a ground-breaking 110,000 visitors, accounting for 5.8% of all visitors to Scotch Whisky Distilleries. Considering our remote location, we are proud to contribute to such a large proportion of the overall Scotch Whisky Tourism visits and constantly look for ways in which to improve our visitor experience, to ensure that Arran fans keep coming back.

Since the start of this year, we have updated several aspects of our Isle of Arran Distillery Visitor Centre. Firstly, our very own Arran Distillery Gift Shop has had a complete make-over, with new fittings creating more room for all of our visitor favourites.

There have also been slight adjustments to our reception area to allow for the new downstairs Coffee Bar which can be found directly behind reception. The Coffee Bar provides a selection of sandwiches, snacks, home baking, and tea and coffee. There is also a selection of cold drinks available including beer and wine. The Coffee Bar allows visitors to grab a coffee or a snack on the go, or to eat outside on our picnic benches when the weather allows. The Coffee bar is open from 10am until 5pm, a little bit longer than our main CASKS Cafe.

We have also recently updated our Tasting Room, where all of our Tutored tastings take place. Visitors are walked through a selection of drams, with the opportunity to taste at least 4, by one of our expert guides. All of our guides are given continuous training, whilst being allowed to adapt their tastings, or indeed their tours, based on the audience they have in front of them. We pride ourselves on ensuring that each visitor has the best experience possible, adapted just for them. This also ensures that it is unlikely that guests will have the exact same experience twice; they learn more and more about us each time they visit.

With the development of our new Lagg Distillery, we are very much looking forward to providing a new and different style of offering for whisky enthusiasts and tourists alike. We hope to increase the appeal of the Isle of Arran as a true whisky destination and ensure that the Scottish Whisky tourism industry continues to grow from strength to strength.

Lagg Distillery - June 2018

Things are really coming along at our new Lagg Distillery and Visitor Centre; the steelwork is complete, the floors are in and the roof is almost complete. We expect the copper pot stills to arrive later this August to ensure production before the Grand Opening in Spring 2019. We are now offering everyone the opportunity to become a part of our new Isle of Arran whisky legacy with 700 of the first fill ex-bourbon American oak casks which have been released for public sale. All Lagg Cask owners will automatically be enrolled in the exclusive Lagg Cask Society and receive additional benefits such as a cask from the very first cask filled at the Lagg Distillery, their name engraved in the bricks of the new distillery, and much more.
