                                                         "September/October - Famous Places" Competition

This was a hard one.....we had lots of really good entries for this competition which asked you all "Where's the most famous place you've had a dram of Arran?"  They ranged from the top of mountains to the middle of the ocean, however our winner, Gillian Anderson from Strathpeffer, chose to nominate a place a little bit closer to home.  Her place was Edinburgh Castle, as she explains "I had a dram of Arran at a conference reception in Edinburgh Castle in 2008!  There were lots of Malts on offer at the reception, and I remember encouraging fellow delegates to have the Arran as I'd worked there for the summer in a hotel the year I left school!"  A bottle of our Arran 10 year-old will be on its way to Gillian - congratulations and thank you for spreading the good word of Arran!

 "Love Declaration" Competition Winner

Jim Woodhouse from Newcastle upon Tyne is the winner of our special "love declaration competition".

Here is his tribute to the Arran Malt (with due deference to Robert Burns)

O my love is like a single malt
From Arran's shiny still
With neither can I find a fault
My heart with love doth fill.

And when at night a dram we share
From Arran's grand selection
The gift o' love from one so fair
To me that is perfection.

  Cocktail Competition Winner

Congratulations to Dafydd Warren from Harborough for his 100% Proof of Life Cocktail

Ingredients:
50cl Arran Malt100 Proof
A small knob of grated fresh ginger squeezed through cloth
Juice of 1 Fresh Orange
1 measure of Green Tea
1 Teaspoon of Scottish Heather Honey

Recipe:
Shake all the above ingredients with plenty of ice in a cocktail shaker, Strain into a martini glass, and spritz with fresh orange peel.
A summery taste for a classic mid-winter drink.
Dafydd Warren "invented" this drink as a variation of the hot toddy that his father used to knock him out with when he was ill as kid. The addition of freshly squeezed fresh ginger gives a huge kick, whilst not overpowering.
The Green tea gives a wonderfull floral note. Both comlpementing the strength and flavours of Arran's 100 Proof whisky.
An original take on a classic Scottish hot toddy

Slainte!
